The conference will be held at the University of Sunderland’s Sir Tom Cowie Campus.  This is situated a short 10 minute walk from the St Peter’s Metro Station, and quite central to Sunderland.  Please find below various accommodation options for the conference:
  • MARRIOTT HOTEL, SUNDERLAND  www.marriott.co.uk/sunderland.  For a limited period of time, the Marriott are offering discounted rates to conference delegates.  To benefit from this rate, please call the hotel to book (+44(0)191 5292041).
  • ROKER HOTEL, SUNDERLAND www.bestwestern.co.uk/roker_hotel.  For good b&b hotel accommodation.
  • TRAVELODGE, SUNDERLAND www.travelodge.co.uk.  For budget price hotel accommodation with breakfast options.
  • www.thechaiseguesthouse.com  For b&b accommodation.
  • www.balmoralandterrace.co.uk  For b&b accommodation, with various guest per. room options.
  • UNIVERSITY OF SUNDERLAND accommodation, Scotia Quay, Sir Tom Cowie Campus.  The university is offering a fixed number of low-rate self-catered ensuite student accommodation on campus.  These rooms are in flats of 5, with a shared kitchen/dining space, with university linen and towels provided.  Each room costs £33.50 per night, and bookings can be arranged by e-mailing Lesley Christie (lesley.christie@sunderland.ac.uk).
I hope that this information helps!  If you find it difficult to get accommodation in Sunderland, it is just as easy (about a 35-minute commute) to reach the conference venue from Newcastle, since the Metro service between the two cities is cheap, frequent, and direct.  We would advise, if you choose to stay in Newcastle, that you consult the Metro map before you book your accommodation, in order to ensure that you have as short a journey as possible.  This can be found here: http://www.nexus.org.uk.
